National Youth Board Update 2017

By: Kaylee VanWinkle Published: Feb 18, 2017

The National Youth Board accomplished a lot in the short time we had together during the Annual Meeting. (we also had a lot of fun ;) )Elections occurred and new board assignments were chosen. I am now sitting on the Rolex and Marketing Committees, as well as the Board of Governor’s Marketing and Upper Level Instruction Committees. During National Youth Board elections, I was nominated and elected as Vice Chair, meaning I will most likely become the next chair of NYB. I am so excited for this opportunity and to continue giving back to USPC!

The following is a brief summary of some highlights from the meeting:

Rolex: The National Youth Board is in charge of distributing the USPC pins to the Rolex riders and part of our focus this year is to promote the hashtags “#ponyclubproud” and “#pinpromise” to increase publicity. Don’t forget to wear your pin! Let’s fill Rolex with our pins!

Marketing: On the Saturday morning of the Annual Meeting we had the opportunity to participate in a community service project. We traveled outside L.A. to Compton, CA to teach and help out at The Compton Jr. Posse (CJP). CJP is a small farm located in a suburb and is focused on keeping kids on horses and off the streets. The program runs every Saturday from 8 am – 2 pm. These kids had such an excitement and focus to learn and further their riding skills. The farm was started by a group of adults who wanted to have an escape from the city and their passion for horses was quickly picked up by their kids. The focus of Compton Jr. Posse is first, safety, second, horse management, and lastly, riding. NYB split up to teach the mounted and unmounted lessons for the morning. I got the chance to help with the mounted lessons and loved watching the kids soak up every word we said and was inspired by their desire to learn! I am so thankful for the opportunity we had to spend a few hours with the dedicated staff and amazing kids.

Thank you all so much for your constant support and for allowing me the opportunity to represent you all on the National Youth Board. I am honored to represent such a strong and loving region.
